Kellogg Loses Spot Atop A-2 Rankings
A handful of undefeated teams remained atop the weekly Associated Press boys basketball polls heading into the holiday break.
The only team to fall from the No.1 spot in voting by the state’s sportswriters and broadcasters was A-2 Kellogg, which dropped to second after defeating A-1 Post Falls and losing to West Valley of Millwood, Wash. Bishop Kelly of Boise assumed the top spot with victories over Emmett and Kuna.
Among Idaho’s largest schools, No. 1 Capital of Boise remained undefeated after victories over Eagle and Meridian. Unbeaten Highland of Pocatello moved up two spots to second with victories over Blackfoot and Burley while defending A-1 state champion Centennial of Meridian slipped from second to third after its second loss of the season, 63-61 to Borah.
Lake City entered the rankings at fourth with wins over Boise and Nampa.
Girls rankings
For the first time this year, the state’s sportswriters and sportscasters unanimously ranked Borah No. 1 in the A-1 poll. Borah received the maximum 10 first-place votes. Highland, Blackfoot, Boise and Sandpoint rounded out the A-1 rankings.
Moscow and Sugar-Salem, meanwhile, split the 10 first-place votes for a second straight week. Sugar-Salem edged Moscow by two points in first. Bishop Kelly, Shelley and Jerome filled out the ratings.
