The Slice Gotta Love This Season

In recognition of “A Christmas Story” being The Slice’s second-favorite holiday movie, we hereby decree that all Spokane area men named Ralph shall be called “Ralphie” all day today.

Sometimes an apple just isn’t enough: Kristy Bennett was in charge of a preschool class of 4-year-olds when she received an unexpected present from a shy little boy.

He handed her a wedding ring. His mother’s wedding ring to be exact.

It seems it had been left out on a kitchen counter and the lad picked it up. Apparently he thought it would make a nice gift for his teacher.

“I just thanked him very much and then went in and called his mother,” said Bennett. “She had been going around her house on hands and knees, trying to find it.”

Methylene chloride warning: You might have read that the Bubble Lite is making a comeback. Fine. But consider this. When Spokane’s Michelle Stamos was a toddler in the early ‘50s, she managed to ingest some of the liquid contents of one. And it almost killed her.

Compare and contrast: Priest River’s Donald Kisamore thinks he has detected a few subtle differences between the Spokane edition and the Idaho edition of the Swell Paper. “After a prolonged careful study, I conclude that the Idaho edition contains considerably more photos and much shorter words.”

There was a local guy on the crew of that famous B-17: “Memphis Belle” is on KXLY-TV tonight.

No, you’re not alone: A lot of us who have seen that violence-loving commercial for “Karate Fighters” shake our heads in disbelief.

Downtown fantasy: When one of the horse-drawn carriages comes near, it’s fun to close your eyes, listen to the clip-clop of hooves on the street and imagine a long-ago time.

Just make sure you aren’t standing in the middle of a crosswalk.

Warm-up question: When will there be time to actually sit down and watch the hours and hours of videotape countless families will shoot in the next few days?

Today’s Slice question: Who gets asked for a date more than anyone else in the Inland Northwest?
