W-C Silences Davenport, Bounces Back

One night after its first loss, Wilbur-Creston returned to form in a matchup of Bi-County division leaders.

Mindy Bandy had 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals, and the West-leading Wildcats (5-0, 9-1) used a 15-0 second-quarter run to subdue East-leading Davenport 73-27 at Wilbur on Friday.<

Jessica Martin of W-C, who missed Thursday’s 66-44 loss to St. John-Endicott because of the flu, added 12 points, four steals and four assists. Nobody hit double figures for the Gorillas (3-1, 6-2).

Jill Thompson’s two 3-pointers to start the fourth quarter accounted for a nine-point lead, and Melissa Day and Tiffany McMurphy held high-scoring Alycia Heier to nine points as the Rams (4-3) beat the Tigers (11-3) for the title.

Riverside’s Bernice Stime scored 14 of her 17 in the second half. Ferris Dudnake scored 20 for Kendrick, which had averaged more than 60 points per game.
