Suspect Jailed In Omak Shooting

From Staff And Wire Reports

One man was hospitalized and another jailed following a shooting late Friday in Omak.

Gilbert Lucero, 29, of Omak, was arrested and booked into Okanogan County Jail on attempted criminal homicide.

Richard Schroder, 36, of Brewster, Wash., was in satisfactory condition at Omak’s Mid Valley Hospital after being shot in the leg with a shotgun.

The argument occurred about 11:30 p.m. just south of Omak on Rodeo Trail Road, said Fred Brown, deputy chief of the Colville Tribal Police Services.

Because Lucero is a tribal member and the arrest was made on the Colville Indian Reservation, the case either will be handled in tribal or federal court, Brown said.

Brown said Lucero and Schroder argued at an undisclosed location, then Lucero went to his nearby home and got a shotgun, returned and fired at Schroder. It is not clear why the men were arguing, Brown said.
