Dollar Retreats In Light Trading
The dollar began the last week of 1995 on a sour note Tuesday, drifting lower in foreign-exchange dealings amid a reluctance by U.S. players to buy the currency before year end.
Most European trading was suspended for holidays, and staffing on U.S. trading desks was typically thin for the week between Christmas Day and New Year’s.
In late New York trading, the dollar was quoted at 1.4330 German marks, down from 1.4380. The dollar also was trading hands at 102.40 Japanese yen, down from 102.70 yen on Friday.
