Truck-Pickup Accident Shuts Down Highway 2

From Staff And Wire Reports

A crash involving a pickup and dump truck closed U.S. Highway 2 for about two hours Friday near the Spokane and Pend Oreille county line, authorities said.

The driver of the pickup, Terry L. Diggins, 41, of Elk, was in serious condition Friday at Sacred Heart Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said.

The dump truck driver, Michael A. Borsheim, 53, of Chattaroy, wasn’t injured during the accident at 11:22 a.m., the Washington State Patrol said.

Diggins was heading south in a 1980 Toyota pickup on the icy highway and lost control, crossed the center line and hit the dump truck head-on, the state patrol said.

Authorities spent about two hours clearing U.S. 2 after the accident.

Diggins wasn’t wearing a seat belt, the state patrol said. It’s unclear whether Borsheim wore a seat belt. , DataTimes
