Election Officials Drop Reynolds Probe
Federal election officials have dropped an investigation of former Rep. Mel Reynolds, despite evidence from bank examiners that he may have converted campaign funds to personal use.
The election officials said Friday they dismissed the case against the Illinois Democrat earlier this month so they could concentrate on more significant cases.
Reynolds, who represented Chicago’s South Side and suburbs, is serving a five-year prison sentence for sexual misconduct with a teenage campaign volunteer. He resigned from Congress in October.
