Riverside’s Season One For The Books, However Thick Those Books May Be

As Henry Peterson attempts to become the most successful wrestler in Riverside High School history, first-year Rams coach Randy Miller has been besieged with questions as to how storied that history is.

Turns out that Miller can’t say for sure. But he has figured out that Riverside’s Northeast A title this season was the school’s first in at least 20 years.

Riverside won a state championship in 1976, but didn’t win its league that season. Miller heard that the last Rams title was somewhere between 1972-75.

“When I first got here, I saw the potential coming up in the lower ranks,” Miller said. “This year, I looked at the lineup and said, `If anything, when you put eight seniors on the mat you’re going to have a good chance.”’

Riverside (6-0-1) in league, enters this weekend’s District 7-A Tournament with No. 1 seeds Peterson, Adrian Bojorques (108 pounds), Dan Krueger (158) and Matt Morin (168). Only Lakeside (16) advanced more from the league tournament to district than Riverside’s 12.

Miller wrestled at Sandpoint High, Western Montana College and Boise State University. He coached a junior high program in Boise before becoming an assistant at Riverside three years ago.
