Tennis Great Dies

Compiled From Wire Services

Fred Perry, a three-time Wimbledon winner and one of the greatest players in tennis history, died. He was 85.

Perry was hospitalized after breaking four ribs in a fall at a hotel in Melbourne on Jan. 29.

He was released from the hospital but readmitted after reportedly falling again. No cause of death was immediately available.

Perry was the first player to win all four major singles titles, although not concurrently. And he was the last British man to win the men’s singles title at Wimbledon.
