Denver Wants To Get Its Hands On Quebec

From Wire Reports

Comsat Corp., which owns the Denver Nuggets, reportedly is trying to buy the Quebec Nordiques for $75 million.

Reports in Denver daily newspapers Saturday and Sunday said a Phoenix group also has expressed interest in the NHL team.

Groups in Houston and Atlanta also may want the team.

Comsat, an international communications and entertainment products and service company based in Washington, D.C., has in the past said it wants to bring an NHL team to Denver to share the new arena being built for the NBA’s Nuggets.

The Nuggets’ $193 million, 19,200-seat arena in the city’s Central Platte Valley would open for the team’s 1997-98 season.

Janney may be gone soon

Craig Janney, the St. Louis Blues’ top playmaker and No. 3 scorer the last two seasons, apparently has left the team while coach Mike Keenan continues trying to trade him.

Janney did not accompany the Blues on their charter flight to Toronto from Winnipeg on Saturday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Keenan told the Post-Dispatch that Janney was out for “personal reasons” and would not elaborate.
