Idaho Man Dies In Truck Collision

From Staff And Wire Reports

An Idaho man died after his truck collided with another truck Wednesday in the Columbia Basin.

Harold W. Metzer, 64, of Fernwood, Idaho, was taken to Othello Hospital, where he died, the Washington State Patrol said.

The accident at U.S. Highway 395 and state Highway 26 occurred about 10:30 a.m.

Metzer was driving a 1976 International flatbed truck west on Highway 26 when he failed to stop at the intersection of U.S. 395 and collided with the tractor of another truck headed south, the state patrol said.

The other driver, Terrence A. Berting, 41, Cochrane, Alberta, wasn’t injured. He was driving a 1990 West Star tractor and was wearing his seat belt, the state patrol said.

The state patrol said it was unknown whether Metzer was wearing his seat belt.
