Lentz’s Late 3-Pointer Gets CV Past Nc, 49-47

Lisa Lentz hit a high-arching 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift Central Valley to a 49-47 victory over North Central in Greater Spokane League girls basketball at the Coliseum Friday night.

The winner was set up when the Indians (0-5, 1-8) missed a free throw with less than 10 seconds left. Katie Carpenter pushed the ball upcourt and found Lentz alone in the corner.

Angela Clarkston made two pressure-packed free throws with 24 seconds left to put NC on top 47-45. With 9 seconds remaining, Crystal Lee made the front end of a one-and-one to pull CV (2-4, 3-7) within one.

Lee led CV with 16 points. Aimee Wilson had 15 for NC.

Stacy Clinesmith had 10 of her 17 points in the first half as the Panthers (5-0, 9-0) built a 10-point lead and their defense held the visiting Bullpups (2-3, 5-4) to seven field goals.

Meredith Giesa had 16 points for Prep, which was 22 of 36 from the line for the game.

Kelly Bartleson had 8 points in the first quarter as the Highlanders (6-0, 8-2) raced to a 16-3 lead against the Tigers (1-4, 3-6) at LC.

Bartleson had 17 of her 25 points at halftime as Shadle took a 34-15 lead. Sara Stillian had 17 points and eight rebounds for Lewis and Clark.

Emily Ireland’s 3-pointer started a 12-0 run in the third quarter as the Saxons (3-2, 7-2) pulled away from the Pirates (0-6, 1-6) at the Coliseum.

Shannon Zahrowski, who finished with 13 points, hit a 3-pointer to pull Rogers within four early in the third quarter before Ireland, who finished with 24 points, keyed the surge.
