Republicans Party As Batt Kicks Off Ball
Republicans whooped it up at the Statehouse Saturday night, as Gov. Phil Batt became the first member of the GOP in 24 years to lead the grand procession launching Idaho’s Inaugural Ball.
The new governor and his wife, Jacque, led a traditional procession of elected state officials, judges and state legislators down the four floors of the Statehouse to open the ball.
They drew cheers from the mostly Republican crowd, including many supporters who helped Batt win a 34,760-vote victory over Democrat Larry EchoHawk in the November election.
After dancing to the strains of “Here We Have Idaho,” Batt planned to later join jazz pianist Gene Harris and his Idaho All Stars, playing his clarinet as he has done often in the past.
