Portland Aau Knocks Off Ewu Women

Turning the ball over 26 times to its opponents’ nine, the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team fell to Portland AAU 79-51 in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon at Reese Court.

The Saints, who are comprised of former collegiate players, improved to 15-7. The game does not count in Eastern’s record. EWU stands at 4-8 heading into Big Sky Conference play next weekend.

A 12-2 Eastern lead in the first 8 minutes was quickly wiped out as Eastern scored just seven points the remainder of the half and trailed 36-19 at intermission. The Eagles had 15 of their turnovers in the first half alone.

Eastern could get no closer than 13 in the second half as Portland’s Katy Steding scored nine of her game-high 20 points after intermission. Lisa Channel added 18 points for the Saints, while Kristy Missall led the Eagles with 11.
