The University of Massachusetts and Connecticut are No.’s 1 and 2 in the college basketball poll. The Minutemen (8-1) reached the No. 1 spot for the second time this season.

UMass received 44 first-place votes and 1,615 points from the national media panel, while Connecticut (10-0), one of two unbeaten Division I teams, jumped from sixth to second and was No. 1 on 17 ballots with 1,534 points.

Kansas (11-1) moved from fifth to third and had two first-place votes as did North Carolina (10-1).

Arkansas was fifth and UCLA sixth. Kentucky, which also had one first-place vote, was seventh and was followed by Syracuse, Maryland and Georgetown.

At No. 25, the Oregon Ducks made their first national appearance in the rankings since 1977.

Tennessee remained the No. 1 women’s ranked team this week. The Lady Vols have received every first-place vote in the eight regular-season polls.

Connecticut (10-0) has to be content with the No. 2 spot for the sixth straight week.
