U.S. Tightens Security On East Asian Flights
The State Department said late Saturday the Federal Aviation Administration has directed U.S. airlines to heighten security in East Asia in response to new information on bomb threats received earlier.
The department statement said that the U.S. government first received information from the Philippines government on Jan. 9 regarding bomb threats directed at U.S. airlines flying to and from points in East Asia.
The State Department issued a statement on the threats Jan. 10.
“The United States government has since received further, more detailed, information concerning these bomb threats,” the department said Saturday. “As a result of this additional information, the FAA has directed U.S. airlines serving the East Asia region to continue and intensify special security measures to counter these threats.
