2 Men Die In Wrecks On Icy N. Idaho Roads

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two North Idaho men died during the weekend as a result of separate single-car accidents caused by icy roads.

Larry Wahl, 43, died when his pickup slid off state Highway 54 about 11:30 p.m. Saturday near Spirit Lake.

Wahl was thrown from the truck as it hit a snow bank and rolled, according to a statement from the Idaho State Police. The Post Falls man was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

Steven C. George, 22, of Sagle was critically injured Friday morning in a similar accident near Hope, Idaho. He died at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

Police said George had just passed another vehicle when he lost control of his pickup on state Highway 200 about 7 a.m.

Police said the truck went airborne over an embankment, landing on a stump about 35 feet from the road. George was not wearing a seat belt but was not thrown from the truck, police said.
