Freshman Matt Harpring broke a tie with a layup with 40 seconds remaining and Travis Best added three free throws in the final 20 seconds as No. 22 Georgia Tech edged No. 15 Wake Forest 67-65 Tuesday night in men’s college basketball in Atlanta.

The Yellow Jackets (2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference, 10-5) had blown an eight-point lead in the final 3:45.

Randolph Childress, who led the Deacons (2-2, 9-3) with 22 points, missed a 3-point shot in the closing seconds and Banks failed on a tipin attempt at the buzzer.

Drew Barry led the Jackets with 18 points and James Best added 16.

Michigan 69, (20) Illinois 59

Ray Jackson scored 16 points and the Wolverines (4-1 Big Ten, 10-6) applied some tough defense to the Illini (4-1, 13-4) to win in Champaign, Ill., and end a five-game winning streak and deny coach Lou Henson of his 400th victory at Illinois.

Lawrence Moten scored 11 of his 21 points in the final 9:35 as the Orangemen (6-0, 13-1) held off the Red Storm (2-4 Big East, 8-5) in Syracuse, N.Y.

Scott Kegler led six Quakers in double figures with 19 points and Pennsylvania (9-2) beat the Explorers (8-5) in Philadelphia.
