Hearing Scheduled For Review Of Several Proposed Subdivisions In/Around: Deer Park, North Division Y, Colbert

Several proposed North Side subdivisions - large and small - go before a panel of hearing examiners next week for review.

The panel, comprised of three members of the county Planning Commission, also will determine the fate of a number of rezoning requests.

The hearing begins at 9 a.m., Jan. 26, in the basement of the Public Works Building across the street from the County Courthouse.

Among the items on the agenda are:

A request to subdivide 100 acres in Colbert into 19 lots for residential development. Planners approved the paperwork to subdivide the property 800 feet east of Perry Road and half a mile south of Crescent Road.

Because the subdivision did not require any rezoning, no public hearing was held before the decision was made.

That decision was appealed by nearby residents, who are represented by attorney Darrel Scott.

Residents say the area in question is a large and unique wooded wetland that would be destroyed by building homes in the area.

“Spokane County has failed to pass any regulation to protect wetlands as required by the Growth Management Act,” Scott said. “It is a large wetland, moose go through there. That’s what kind of a wilderness area it is.”

A Renton, Wash., man is trying to rezone 70 acres just east of the Deer Park Airport from agricultural to semi-rural.

John Golly is planning to subdivide the land into 13 lots of five acres or larger, according to a preliminary site plan. Under agriculture zoning, land cannot be subdivided into parcels smaller than 10 acres.

The land is located on the east side of Missile Site Road, across the street from the airport and north of Deer Park-Milan Road.

The owners of the Liberty Motel at N6813 Division are hoping to expand their operation. In order to do so, they must secure a zone change from neighborhood business to regional business. They are asking the hearing examiner panel to reclassify a small parcel of property that currently is zoned residential to regional business.
