University Closes In On Gymnastics Title
Kim Meyers edged University teammate Kalie Cossette for the allaround title Thursday as the Titans (18-0) all but clinched the Greater Spokane League gymnastics title by winning a four-way meet at Rogers.
U-Hi, which has won the last two league titles, completes its GSL season Thursday with a four-way that includes second-place Central Valley (16-2) and third-place Mead (13-5). CV would have to win the four-way and have Mead edge out U-Hi to tie for the crown.
Meyers, who won the vault, finished with 34.65 points to the 34.55 of Cossette, who tied teammate Amber Hulbert for the balance beam title.
Ferris (9-9) finished strongly on the beam to edge Mead for the runner-up spot behind U-Hi. The host Pirates (5-13) scored a schoolrecord 143.5 but trailed the field.
At Shadle Park, Angie Giroux and Bethany Porter tied for the allaround title and led CV to a 1-4 sweep in that category during a fourway meet.
Giroux and Porter scored 34.1 apiece to outdistance teammates Lindsay Linerud (33.4) and Michelle Gharst (33.25). Emily Jones of North Central (8-10) was fifth at 30.35.
CV outscored runner-up NC 155.6-151.8. Lewis and Clark (1-17) broke into the winning column with a 134.6-133.25 win over the host Highlanders (2-16).
