Inmate Gets Life Term For Killing During Riot
A prison inmate was sentenced to life for killing a fellow prisoner during an April 1993 riot at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility.
Gregory Curry, 30, was convicted of aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder. He was sentenced Saturday to life for killing Bruce Vitale and an additional 15 to 25 years for trying to kill William Svette, who also died in the uprising.
The sentences are to be served consecutively to the 15-to-50-year term Curry has been serving since 1989 for robbery and burglary.
Vitale and Svette were two of nine inmates slain during an 11-day siege at the prison.
Prosecutors first charged Curry with Svette’s killing. Later it was determined another inmate struck the fatal blow after Curry beat Svette.
