Council Will Revise Its Schedule No Meeting Planned Tonight Because Of Members’ Travels

Take a break, Spokane - the City Council is on vacation.

Too many traveling council members means no meeting tonight.

When the council returns next week, it starts a new meeting schedule.

That means:

Thursday briefings are out. Instead, the council plans to meet twice a month for a study session devoted to one topic. The first study session should take place July 13.

A hot line will give residents a chance to call in on Mondays before the meetings with questions and concerns.

Agenda packets are due out 10 days in advance of meetings instead of the usual four. That means packets will come out on Friday for a meeting two Mondays away.

Residents can sit down with a council member and staff person on Mondays at 3 p.m. to talk about issues on that night’s agenda. Mayor Jack Geraghty will host the first one July 10.

The forum - where residents can ask about issues not on the agenda - will take place at the meeting’s 6 p.m. start and be televised.

The council will vote on consent agenda items - routine things such as contracts and claims - during the Monday briefing, which will start at 3:30 instead of 5 p.m.
