Flavor Of The Country
Backwoods Bar-B-Q Sauce sounds like something cooked up on a camp stove in a rundown shack out in the middle of nowhere.
Actually, the recipe comes from the restaurant that Charlotte Yergens’ family used to run in Edmonton, Alberta. The Newport, Wash.-area resident and her two young sons make it today in a small business incubator in Sandpoint.
Whatever its origins, the tangy taste is straightforward - sweet, then spicy, with a pleasantly lingering bite.
As barbecue sauces go, it’s definitely uptown.
Price: $2.79 to $2.99 for 14 ounces.
Available: Egger Meats, Yoke’s Pac ‘N Save, McGlade’s Treemendous Fruit & Cider, selected Rosauers and Tidyman’s supermarkets and Food Fresh and Owen Grocery in Newport.
