Searchers couldn’t find a man who jumped off the Maple Street Bridge on Wednesday night.
The man had climbed a fence on the bridge’s west side and handed a woman walking by a suicide note before jumping about 9:20 p.m., Spokane police Sgt. Joe Peterson said.
The woman reported the jumper, then searchers combed the river banks and helicopters circled the sky in an effort to locate him.
After more than an hour, the search was called off. The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family, Peterson said.
