The Spokane Chiefs acquired center Martin Cerven from the Slovak Republic with the 20th pick in Friday’s Canadian Hockey League European entry draft.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder starred with the Trencin junior team in his hometown of Trencin, Slovak Republic, last season. Cerven was chosen in the sixth round - 161st overall - by Edmonton in this year’s NHL entry draft.

“Martin is a strong, aggressive center that can also play forward,” said Ray Dudra, Chiefs director of player personnel. “He can play the North American game really well and has the potential to be a big-time offensive threat.”

Each team from the Western, Ontario and Quebec Junior leagues selected one player.
