Local Airport Traffic Shoots Up 16 Percent

May’s 16 percent increase in passenger activity at Spokane International Airport, compared with May 1994, marks three years of extraordinary growth at the airport.

Airport officials say May’s numbers represent the 36th consecutive month of substantial growth.

The first five months of 1995 saw a 13 percent increase in passenger traffic over the first five months of 1994.

Cargo shipments at Spokane International were up 50 percent in May, compared to the same month in 1994. Those shipments are up 26 percent for the year.

Total operations - which include, commercial, cargo and private flights - at the airport were down 10 percent for the month of May due to the closure of the airport’s principal runway for resurfacing.

Total operations at Felts Field dropped 12.5 percent in May and were down almost 2 percent for the year. Total cargo was up 17 percent for the month and 26 percent for the year.
