Love’s Band Performing In Canada

Courtney Love may be the star of the ‘95 Lollapalooza tour, but Love says she is more excited about performing at a private rock concert Sept. 3 in the Canadian village of Tuktoyaktuk (population 950) on the Arctic Ocean.

Love’s band, Hole, will perform with Metallica, Veruca Salt and Moist at the promotional concert for Molson Ice beer, which is advertised as the beer from “the land where ice was born.” Only 500 winners of Molson’s “polar beach party” contest will attend.

Love plans to bring her daughter, Frances Bean Cobain.

“I’m going to take Frances so she can see Santa Claus,” Love said shortly before the Lollapalooza tour kicked off July 4 at The Gorge Amphitheatre at George, Wash.

Hole’s share of the take for the Molson’s concert will be $500,000.

“Molson’s! I bathe in it. I use it in my hair. I make deodorant out of it. And when I’m feeling really romantic, I make a bath with it,” Love said.

But Love explained that after paying taxes as well production and management costs, she and her fellow band members will get about $20,000 each.

Love plans to put her share into a college fund for Frances Bean.

Another setback: R.E.M.’s current European tour, interrupted by the band’s second medical emergency of the year, is expected to resume July 22 in Dublin, Ireland.

Mike Mills, bassist for the rock band, based in Athens, Ga., underwent abdominal surgery Tuesday in Germany. The operation, a laparotomy, was a success and Mills is expected to make a full recovery.

Mills won’t be able to resume normal activities until July 22.
