Schultz Looks For Turnaround On Oval

Paul Delaney Correspondent

Rick Schultz won’t find much sympathy among his competition for all the bad luck he seems to be having while competing in the 1995 NASCAR Northwest Tour. Little things like flat tires and untimely fenderbenders have kept Schultz from accomplishing his preseason goal of winning the series championship.

So instead of having, perhaps, two victories that appeared in his grasp in the 12 races to date, Schultz has none. Currently in seventh place in points, Schultz tries to correct that Saturday night at Wenatchee Valley Raceway in the Dusty Burger 125.

A month ago at Portland International Raceway in the series’ first road race, Schultz was among the leaders, up to fourth, in fact, when he got involved in a late-race wreck that dropped him to sixth.

The season has been frustrating for Schultz, who competed in a handful of ‘Tour races last year, and had high hopes of doing well.

The Wenatchee race is followed July 30 by the Western 250 at Monroe’s Evergreen Speedway.

It’ll be a short week of preparation for the series’ longest race and biggest payout, but then maybe it will be that much less time for more to go wrong.

Northport returns on Saturdays

Northport International Raceway ends a three-week layoff Saturday night when the dirt track presents the Mission Distributors Dirt Cup.

The track will run all three regular classes - Modifieds, Superstocks and Volkswagens - beginning with racing starting promptly at 4.
