Seattle Zoo Goes Ape Over Fertile Gorilla

While Ivan is getting to know two female gorillas in Zoo Atlanta, Congo is an expectant father of two at Woodland Park Zoo here.

Amanda is due to give birth in October and Jumoke in February. It will be the first gorilla births at the zoo since 1990, zoo officials said.

Zoo officials aren’t very optimistic about Jumoke’s pregnancy because the 10-year-old’s two prior pregnancies ended in miscarriage. If Amanda, 25, fares well, it will be the first offspring for both her and Congo, 36.

Like Ivan, Congo spent most of his life confined alone, and Congo’shis first introduction to Amanda wasn’t love at first sight.
