Clark Eliminates Ccs Women From Tourney

Beth Hammrick scored 33 points, including three 3-pointers, as Clark College downed the Community Colleges of Spokane 74-71 in a loserout game at the NWAACC Championships in Salem, Ore.

With 30 seconds left and Clark ahead 72-71, CCS decided to foul. Hammrick made one of two foul shots, and Clark held on.

Kellie Gaines led CCS with 17 points. Melissa Davies added 16 points and 19 rebounds.

Chemeketa (28-1) plays Lower Columbia (18-9) in tomorrow’s championship game.

Baseball

John Cann and Ryan Anholt hit tworun singles in a six-run fifth inning as the National Baseball Institute of Canada beat Washington State 7-4 in its first game at the Kingdome Classic. The Cougars lost to Nevada 4-1 in their second game.

Cougars starter Todd Belitz worked into the fifth before being relieved by Eric Estes, who finished up for WSU. The two allowed just six hits, but six walks and a pair of hit batters aided NBI’s effort.

Rob Ryan, Mike Kinkade, Tom Cody and Ty Solomon were the only WSU players to record hits against NBI.

Bobby Post and Chris Garza combined for two-hit pitching in the Cougars’ loss to the Wolf Pack.

Mike Westmore hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to break up Post’s nohitter.

Ken Cameron, Mike Wetmore and Ron Naumu collected WSU’s three hits.

Jerrod Wong struck out eight and walked two as Gonzaga (4-1) beat Albertson 9-1 at the Banana Belt Tournament in Lewiston.

Gonzaga’s Andy Norton went 3 for 5 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored.
