Mariners Will Let Jefferson Go
The Seattle Mariners on Monday signed nine players to temporary replacement contracts and renewed 28 of 29 unsigned players who are on strike.
Seattle did not, however, renew the contract of Reggie Jefferson, a designated hitter and first baseman.
Jefferson hit .327 with eight homers in 83 games last year.
The Mariners beat the Padres 2-1 in 10 innings on Monday before a crowd of only 603 in Peoria, Ill.
Terrel Hansen doubled home the go-ahead run in the 10th.
