Visions Of The Inland Northwest Building History Beautiful Buildings Highlight Riverside

Karla R. Litzenberger Of Spokane

I consider myself very lucky to be living in one of Spokane’s finest historical neighborhoods, the Riverside Avenue Historic District. How many neighborhoods can claim so many buildings that have been placed on the National Register of Historical Places? We have the Old Carnegie Library, The Spokane Club, Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral, the San Marco Apartments, the Masonic Temple, the Chamber of Commerce, North Coast Life and the Chancery buildings.

Walking to town along tree-lined Riverside Avenue I can easily imagine how it may have looked during the first part of the century when elegant and sophisticated architecture began to transform Spokane into the beautiful city it is today.
