Local Girls Win National Awards North Central’s Jillian Anderson Wins Top Prize In Youth Writing Contest Sponsored By National Outdoor Writers

Two Spokane teenagers have placed first and second in the national youth outdoor writing contest sponsored by the Outdoor Writers Association of America. Jillian Anderson, a junior at North Central High School, won first place and $300 with a story called “Fishing Sunday.” Tara Sullivan placed second and won $250 for a story called “Wasted Time.”

Anderson were automatically entered in the national contest after being selected as finalists in the ninth annual youth outdoor writing contest sponsored by The Spokesman-Review. Their stories were published in the newspaper on Dec. 25.

Rules for this year’s contest will be published in October. Deadline for entries will be December 1. However, any outdoor-related writing published this year by a high school student - including letters, poetry, fiction and non-fiction - is eligible for the newspaper’s 1995 contest. -Rich Landers
