Second Person Charged With Kidnap, Assault No Murder Charges Filed In Death Of Man Found Near Eloika Lake

A second suspect was charged Monday with kidnapping and stabbing a Spokane man whose body was found last week near Eloika Lake.

Spokane County prosecutors charged Jacqueline C. Bence, 21, with first-degree kidnapping and second-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

Alan G. Rochek, 28, was arrested last week and charged with the same offenses.

The Spokane residents are being held in Spokane County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond apiece.

Prosecutors have not filed murder charges in connection with the death of Spokane resident Richard P. Morley, 30. His body was found Friday morning in a shallow grave.

Police would not say how Morley died or whether he knew the two suspects.

Spokane County sheriff’s Lt. David Wiyrick said investigators believe Rochek and Bence kidnapped Morley from his Spokane home, bound and gagged him, and took him to Pend Oreille County.

Bence stabbed Morley in the thigh during the drive, Wiyrick said.

The sheriff’s department and Spokane Police Department are working on the case with the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Department.

Morley, Rochek and Bence all have police records.

Bence was 13 when she first was convicted in Spokane County courts of being a minor in possession of alcohol, according to juvenile court records.

That conviction was followed by nine others - including prostitution, theft, unlawful imprisonment and assault - while she still was a minor. Police spokesman Dick Cottam said Bence has been convicted of other crimes, including vehicular assault, as an adult.

Rochek, 3115 E. Carlisle, was arrested in February for possession of weapons and drugs.

Morley, the victim, had been arrested 40 times for a variety of offenses, said Wiyrick. Most recently, he was arrested in March for possessing illegal drugs.
