Three Burglars Steal Tequila From N. Division Liquor Store
Three thirsty burglars stole several bottles of tequila from a North Side liquor store this week.
Spokane police responded to an alarm at the Washington State Liquor Control Board store at 7706 N. Division early Tuesday. They found a double glass door on the side of the building had been smashed with a rock.
The burglars took the liquor and fled. A witness heard breaking glass followed by the store’s alarm. He looked at the store in time to see three people running from the business.
Scrimmage ends in arrests
An after-hours football scrimmage last week at Joe Albi Stadium ended in the arrests of eight men for trespassing.
The men set off an alarm when they entered the locked stadium just before 11 p.m. on May 3. When police arrived, they saw the teens playing football on the field. They were 18-, 19- and 20-year-old males. Each was cited for trespassing and released.
There was no damage to the fence or to the field from the after-hours scrimmage.
Teenaged robbed
Two youths robbed a teenager at knife-point on the North Side last week.
The victim told police he and a friend walked to a convenience store at Wellesley and Market and met two other teenagers in the store. They spoke briefly, then left on foot.
A few minutes later, the victim was assaulted by the same two youths he had seen in the store. One grabbed the victim and held a knife to his throat. They demanded money, and took the victim’s pager.
The robbers are described as white males, both 15 to 17 years old. One had dark hair, was 6 feet tall, 150 pounds and unshaven with a goatee. The other was blond, about 5 foot 5 and 150 pounds. Both wore blue bandannas.
The victim was not injured.
Pipe bomb explodes
Someone detonated a pipe bomb last Thursday near Nine Mile Falls.
Shortly before 7 p.m., several residents reported hearing a loud explosion near the 9000 block of North Nine Mile Road. Members of the county’s Explosives Disposal Unit responded to the area and found a large pipe bomb had been detonated in an old bathtub.
The tub was used as an animal water trough and was destroyed by the blast. It was in a fenced pasture, along with two horses and several other animals. No animals were injured.
Spokane detectives say two suspects, both juveniles, were identified and are in custody. No charges have been filed, but state and federal charges involving the manufacture of an explosive device could result, police said.
