A Washington State Patrol trooper and a drunken driving suspect headed for jail landed in the hospital when a car ran a red light and smashed into the patrol car, authorities said.

Trooper Bryant Blake was crossing Monroe at Fourth about 9 p.m. when the car hit Blake’s patrol car, said Sgt. Chris Powell of the WSP.

Both the trooper and the female drunken driving suspect were being evaluated at Deaconess Medical Center late Saturday.

The names of the DWI suspect and the driver of the other car were not available.

WSP detectives are investigating to determine whether charges will be filed.
