Red Sox Have Fans Climbing ‘The Wall’

Thousands of Red Sox fans waited hours in the rain on Monday in Boston for a chance to take a picture with a player or throw themselves against Fenway Park’s Green Monster in pursuit of an imaginary fly ball.

The Red Sox planned the “Friendly Fenway Family Festival” in appreciation for their fans’ loyalty during the 8-month strike.

Clearing the bases

Former Spokane righthander Ricky Bones, the top pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers, signed a contract extension that will pay him a guaranteed $1,725,000 next season. … Texas third baseman Dean Palmer avoided today’s arbitration hearing by signing a oneyear contract for $1.925 million. … Oakland’s Geronimo Berroa was the player of the week with 13 hits and 12 runs scored.

Mickey Tettleton drove in four runs, hit his sixth homer and reached base four times, powering Texas past Toronto.

Tettleton had a two-run single in the second, a solo homer in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth.
