Rathdrum Golfer Assumes First-Round Lead

Tracy Hanson of Rathdrum, Idaho, a 23-year-old rookie, shot a 5-under-par 67 Friday for a one-shot, opening-round lead in the Star Bank LPGA Classic.

Hanson had no bogeys and hit 17 greens. Danielle Ammaccapane, Chris Johnson and Lisa Walters were one shot back.

“It was the best day I put together this year,” Hanson said. “I just have to keep trusting myself and keep my confidence up.”

Hanson, who started on the back nine, dropped a 27-foot birdie putt on the 12th hole and nearly had a hole-in-one on the 170-yard 17th when her 5-iron shot hit the pin and stopped 2 feet away.

Hanson’s 5-foot birdie putt on the ninth gave her the lead for good.
