Put In Your Nickel’s Worth On Parking Meters’ Return
The Spokane City Council will hold a public hearing tonight on a proposal to bring parking meters back to downtown.
The city removed about 300 meters three years ago, hoping to attract more shoppers.
City staff members say most of the free-parking spots are taken instead by downtown workers.
Bringing back the meters is part of a larger proposal planned by business owners to revitalize downtown.
Also tonight, the council will:
Consider hiring a Missoula forestry consultant to inventory 100,000 trees that line Spokane streets.
The one-year contract with Natural Path Forestry Consultants would cost $36,300.
It is part of a $125,000 effort to catalog and rate the condition of every cityowned tree, many of which are nearly 100 years old and unhealthy.
Decide whether to approve a 50-lot subdivision at 37th and Freya, and a 39-lot subdivision near the intersection of Lincoln and Five Mile roads.
The North Side subdivision is exempt from a moratorium the council placed on Five Mile Prairie development last May.
That moratorium expires Tuesday.
Consider buying two residential lots at 5428 E. Commerce to create a small neighborhood park near Felts Field airport.
City staff members will brief the council on agenda items at 5:30 p.m. in the fifth-floor conference room in City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.
xxxx MEETING The council meeting starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
