Man Arrested After Standoff Near School

From Staff And Wire Reports

A man who locked himself in a garage across the street from a school and threatened police with a rifle was arrested without incident Monday afternoon, Wenatchee police said.

Phillip Fears, 38, Wenatchee, surrendered about 1:45 p.m., nearly 12 hours after an apparent family dispute turned violent.

No shots were fired and there were no injuries.

Fears was booked into the Chelan County Regional Jail for investigation of domestic violence, malicious mischief and assault, Capt. Rick Murray said.

During the standoff, police blocked off several nearby streets and evacuated a classroom at Pioneer Middle School, across the street. Wenatchee High School also is in the area, Murray said.

Officers responding to a family member’s report of a domestic dispute were told Fears had poured a flammable liquid on the outside of the building and had scuffled with a family member, Murray said.
