Get A Hunch, Bet A Bunch

Should Bricks’n Sticks, among the 14 nominees, have gone postward in Sunday’s Spokane Derby, trainer Brook Mobley might have been accused of chasing an empty wagon. He elected, however, to snuggle this very credible filly into today’s feature for non-winners of three races.

It doesn’t take a Daily Racing Form to see that this eight-furlong contest holds more promise than nine furlongs trying to outrun Super Ciel, Inlovewiththesport and Just Another Buzz. Bricks’n Sticks made a nice move in the Playfair Breeders’ Cup, so the distance is no problem.

Unlike her last, today’s race is no walkover, but if she wins, can the Lilac Lady Handicap be far away?

Here are today’s selections:

FIRST: $10 to win on MR. ALYDAR and wheel him in the daily double ($16). $2 doubles pairing JAMES ROLLS and SQUITTER with BEST CASE SCENARIO, MR. SPOKANE and PROUD JUSTY ($12).

THIRD: $10 to win on MITE MS COURAGEOUS. $5 quinella pairing her with HALF MOON ANNE. Parlay half of winnings, win and place, to BRICKS’N STICKS in eighth.

FOURTH: $10 to win on BOLD N SAUCY.

SEVENTH:$10 quinella box of FIERY PASSION, ROMAN VILLA and BISHOPS KNIGHT ($30).

EIGHTH: $10 to win on BRICKS’N STICKS and $10 quinellas pairing her with ABITOFANIPINTHEAIR and CANDY FESTIVAL.

NINTH: $1 trifectas pairing GREY VISTA and MISS C FABULOUS both ways to WEE BE MIBEHAVING, CAPABLE CUTIE and DOLL OF THE NORTH ($6).

Original bankroll: $2,000.

Friday’s result: Won $20.50.

Present bankroll: $1,880.20.
