Fishermen Missing After Storm Rips Bay Of Bengal

Associated Press

At least eight fishermen were reported missing and believed dead Sunday after a storm in the Bay of Bengal.

The fishermen have been missing since the storm swept through on Friday, said Nurul Huda Chowdhury, president of the fishing boat owners association.

The search for them has been called off, he said.

The men had been sailing in seven boats, which may have been damaged in the storm, he said.

However, the deputy commissioner of the boat owners association said there were no casualties.

The conflicting accounts could not immediately be reconciled.
