Acquitted Officer Fights For Promotion

Compiled From Wire Services

A Navy officer acquitted last month on charges of harassing a female subordinate is appealing to Navy Secretary John Dalton for a private meeting to argue he should not be denied promotion to rear admiral.

Capt. Everett Greene asked that he be allowed to hold a “candid, confidential discussion” with Dalton, the service’s civilian chief, to try to dispel doubts about his fitness for promotion.

Greene was acquitted on Oct. 19. His promotion, initially sent to Congress for approval last winter, has been on hold since the charges were made.
