Man’s Body Found On Railroad Track

Compiled From Wire Services

A man was hit by a train early Friday in northeast Spokane and his body was found on the tracks several hours later.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was a 30-year-old Native American. Detectives were trying late Friday to reach relatives of the victim, who may be a transient, police said.

The accident likely occurred about 12:30 a.m., when a Burlington Northern train came through the area of Crestline and Illinois. The engineer did not see the man or realize he’d been hit and continued on the train’s route, according to BN officials.

It was the last train to use those tracks before a Cox Cable worker discovered the body about 8:15 a.m.

Police do not believe the man was a victim of foul play, Sgt. Jim Lundgren said.

An autopsy will determine the cause of death and whether drugs or alcohol were involved, he said.
