Compiled From Wire Services

Free-agent pitcher Ramon Martinez re-signed with Los Angeles to become the highest-paid pitcher in Dodgers history by signing a three-year contract for about $15 million with an option for the 1999 season.

Cleveland pitcher Dennis Martinez has undergone successful arthroscopic surgery to his knee, the Indians said.

Ken Griffey Sr., who spent the last four seasons in the Seattle organization with his two sons, was hired as the Colorado Rockies’ batting coach.

The San Diego Padres promoted scouting director Kevin Towers, 34, to general manager.
