Two Accused Of Dart Torture

John Craig Staff Writer

Police are looking for two men who are charged with torturing a Davenport man by throwing darts at him.

Free A. Green, 22, and Jason C. Marquez, 19, were charged this week with one count each of first-degree kidnapping and second-degree assault.

A 14-year-old Davenport boy was arrested earlier on the same charges and was taken to the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center.

Lincoln County Prosecutor Ron Shepherd said he may file charges against others, including a girl who was arrested and released to her parents. He declined to identify the juveniles, and said he hasn’t decided whether to try the 14-year-old as an adult.

The victim, 19-year-old John Brown Jr. of Davenport, was treated and released at Lincoln Hospital for numerous bruises and puncture wounds he suffered in the attack last Sunday.

Shepherd said in court documents that Brown was taken prisoner and assaulted from 2:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. at Green’s home in Davenport, where Brown and several juveniles had gathered. Green allegedly began beating Brown because he suspected Brown was a drug informer.

Green and his roommate, Marquez, had lived briefly in Davenport and now can’t be found, Shepherd said.

Shepherd charges that Green kicked and kneed Brown while one juvenile beat him with a broomstick and others kicked and jabbed him.

Then Brown was placed against a bedroom wall and Green threw darts at him. Shepherd said the darts hit Brown in the arms, legs and testicles - and they stuck.

After that, the prosecutor alleged, Green threatened to kill Brown and started talking about how to get rid of the body. Instead of killing him, though, Green and the others beat Brown some more, using a bar of soap wrapped in a towel. They also slapped Brown with a glove and spat on him, Shepherd said.
