Fire In Apartments Leaves 27 Homeless

Four people were hurt and 27 people were left homeless after fire ripped through 13 apartments in a Tukwila complex early Sunday.

Firefighters rescued a 60-year-old woman from the second floor of the Ol Cara Apartments.

She was treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation and released.

Two firefighters from SeaTac fell through the second floor of the building and were injured.

Medic crews took them to Highline Community Hospital, where they were treated and released.

A third firefighter who suffered minor burns on his leg also was treated at a hospital and released.

Damage is estimated at $850,000.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.

Eleven apartments were destroyed and two others were damaged, fire officials said.

The American Red Cross was providing a shelter for about 10 people Sunday night.

Other residents were staying with friends or family members.
