Courier Wins Swiss Open

Fifth-seeded Jim Courier of the United States outlasted Jan Siemerink of the Netherlands in a five-set marathon to win the $1 million Swiss Open In Basel, Switzerland.

Courier took just over four hours to win 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.

Andres Gomez beat Johan Kriek 6-4, 7-6 (6-1) to capture the Coopers & Lybrand tournament in Thousand Oaks, Calif., becoming only the third player other than Jimmy Connors to win an event on the 35-over Champions Tour.
