Belle’s Bat Confiscated After Game-Tying Home Run

Associated Press

The Boston Red Sox asked the umpires to confiscate Albert Belle’s bat after the Cleveland star’s game-tying homer in the 11th inning of their playoff game early Wednesday morning.

Boston took a 4-3 lead on Tim Naehring’s solo homer in the top of the 11th.

After Belle rounded the bases to tie it, home plate umpire Tim Welke had the bat taken away.

The game was still in progress at press time.

Back in the Cleveland dugout, Belle was caught by the television cameras pointing to his flexed muscles and yelling towards the Red Sox dugout.

Belle was suspended for seven games last season for using a corked bat in Chicago, an illegal technique. He hit 50 homers this year, including a record 17 in September.
