Cougars’ Davis Earns Pac-10 Honor

Washington State quarterback Chad Davis and two Stanford players, linebacker Chris Draft and placekicker Eric Abrams, are the Pacific-10 Conference football players of the week.

Davis, the top offensive player, completed 21 of 28 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns in less than three quarters in WSU’s 40-14 win over Oregon State.

Davis raised his career passing total to 3,478 yards and moved him ahead of Jerry Henderson into sixth place on WSU’s career list. He needs 658 passing yards to catch Ty Paine (4,136) and 1,095 to overtake Mark Rypien (4,573).

UCLA declared star linebacker Donnie Edwards ineligible after a Pacific-10 investigation into his relationship with sports agent Robert Caron.

The Bruins plan to petition the NCAA immediately.

UI, EWU injury report

Idaho has lost tight end Andy Gilroy for Saturday’s homecoming game against Eastern Washington. He suffered a partially collapsed lung against Montana State on Saturday. Quarterback Brian Brennan has a bruised back, but it’s not considered a severe injury.

EWU lost freshman offensive guard T.J. Ackerman (torn knee ligaments) for the season in a loss to Idaho State. Receiver Jerrold Jackson might be out for a couple of weeks after being knocked out for the second straight game with a concussion. Running back Rex Prescott will move to receiver.

Safety Doug Dorton (back) is listed as doubtful. He’s missed the last two games. In the next two weeks.

Big Sky awards

Montana quarterback Dave Dickenson, who accounted for five touchdowns in a 49-22 win over Weber State, is the Big Sky Conference offensive player of the week.

Dickenson is second in the nation in pass efficiency and total offense.

Montana State linebacker Brian Pepper won defensive honors for 13 tackles in a 16-13 over Idaho and Northern Arizona’s Kevin O’Leary won for special teams.

Idaho out of poll

For the first time since October of 1991, Idaho (1-3) is not ranked in The Sports Network I-AA poll. Idaho was 24th last week. Boise State (2-3) also dropped out.

Montana (5-1) remained at No. 5. Idaho State (5-0) is No. 15, followed by Northern Arizona (5-1) at No. 16. Montana visits Northern Arizona on Saturday.
